Say hey to Renee, one of our fav Pilates and boxing instructors. If you've taken one of Renee's classes you'll know she has a whole lot of heart and energy, so we sat down with her to get the low down on her movement routine, high performing Pilates exercises and the importance of community.

What drew you Pilates?

Pilates coincided really nice with my dance training at the time, but what made fall in love with it the most, was the fact that every time I came to a class, the expectation was always that it was me for ME! No one else. And if I knew if I could make others feel like that, it would be such an honor!

How would you describe Pilates in three words?

Controlled, intentional and spicy!

What’s your pre-class ritual?

Coffee – home made (if I have time!) or I don’t have time, I get it from Maccas 😊

Most impactful (and your fav) Pilates exercises?

If we’re talking core, a reverse crunch (although I know many don’t like them!) It’s small but mighty move. If we’re talking legs, then it’s the frogger squat – it’s brutal!

How do you motivate your clients during a tough workout?

I like to remind members that whatever they’re feeling, so is the person next to them and the person behind them. Not one person in the room is it in alone. I aim to get them to feed off the group energy that they’re making, and that right there is the beauty of group fitness

What do you love about Upstate Sport’s Air Sculpt range?

As an instructor, it’s really important that your activewear isn't cutting in, or too loose, or getting in the way. The Air Sculpt is light, tight, comfy and flattering. so I can focus on delivering an epic class

Why is community so important when it comes to movement?

Being part of a workout community makes moving so much more enjoyable, I think because there are surrounded by like minded people  who love moving as much as you do. And the most beautiful friendships and connections  are made in the way!
