Meet Abbie! AFLW Carlton Footballer 

What inspired you to play AFLW? 

I was inspired to be play AFLW because my dad used to play in the AFL s that’s kind of how I started up. Since then, I just do it because I love it and that's what keeps me there. 

What’s a typical week of movement for you? 

I’m a super active person so I love doing any kind of physical activity - it’s so good for your physical body and mental health. A typical week in my life is training about 3-4 times per week or we do a lot of running, a lot of gym, and then off my off days I love to come and do pilates to strengthen the muscles that I’m not using at footy, and also to use it as an hour of stretching or whatever I might need that week. 

What keeps you motivated to stay active? 

It’s really hard to always stay motivated, I don’t think any normal person is motivated 365 days of the year - but what I keep going back to is reminding myself how I feel after I do any kind of physical exercise. There are so many benefits to it and that’s what I keep reminding myself. 

What are one of your goals for 2025? 

One of my big goals is to gain some core strength which hopefully in the long run will help me with my speed and agility. 

What’s your no.1 tip for someone wanting to get into the AFLW? 

Focus on what you’re good at and make sure you keep working on that. A lot of people get caught up in what they’re bad at what they need to improve on but no one is picking you for the things you’re bad at! Keeping looking at the things you’re good at and keep striving to get better at those.
